Hi friends,
Many thanks for following this newsletter / short-fiction compendium over the last months or years.
Posts have been sporadic of late, so I wanted to give you an update. Due to the pressures of writing on a too many platforms, I’ll be putting ‘Coming Up Short’ on an indefinite hiatus.
Here’s where you can find my author news and other content online:
Medium:
Articles on literature (e.g. The unbreakable bond between short fiction and the natural world), writing craft (e.g. Sonic Writing: sound techniques for wordsmiths) and flash fiction reprints (e.g. Peloton)
Mastodon: (I left Twitter because of ‘you know who’)
New publication announcements and writing chatter.

My most successful book ever
For those of you who don’t know, I’m a writing coach. I help professional writers with English as a second language to reach proficiency and get better opportunities. Having lived abroad for many years as an English teacher, communicating across borders and languages is something I care deeply about.
So, of course, I wrote a book.
Last June I launched ‘How to Become a Proficient English Writer’ — a 32-page guide to help multilingual writers advance their language skills. It’s full of tips, examples, strategies and resources which enable pro writers to level up their game and get to the next stage of their careers.
The book is free to obtain and has received 1,043 downloads to date. This makes it my ‘best-selling’ book ever. In the next 12 months, I’m hoping to see it reach 5k writers around the world.
If you are a multilingual writer, or you know one who might benefit from the book, please download it and spread the word.
Thanks again for reading. I’ll always be rooting for your stories.
Signing off.
Phil
