Hi friends,
Apologies for the radio silence here at Coming Up Short. I’m back and I have exciting news.
I'll be editing the world’s first bitcoin short-fiction anthology. ‘21 Futures: Tales from the Timechain’. The book will be published by Konsensus Network in 2023 and will feature stories from some of the bitcoin community’s brightest minds as well as the work of emerging authors.
My idea is to bring new characters, settings and narratives to the world of bitcoin, which is often wrongly portrayed as overly-technical or emotionless. I hope that through the power of the stories, readers will gain understanding and empathy for the community, whether they use the blockchain or not.
Publication and payment of $100 will be offered to 21 authors. Writers should submit stories between 1,500 and 3,000 words which prominently feature bitcoin.
Where have all the writers gone?
With a heavy heart, I closed my Twitter account in November 2022.
I’ve been active on the platform since 2016 and had connected with so many wonderful short-fiction writers there.
It may seem like there is no ‘oven-ready’ replacement where writers can chat and champion each others’ work, but I truly believe the platform is cursed. I know some flash fiction writers moving towards Discord, but I have chosen to open a Mastodon account. I’d be more than happy to connect with any short-fiction readers or writers there.
I’ve also been publishing articles about writing craft and literature on Medium since September (hence the radio silence). We need more fiction writers over there, so come and join me!
Here’s a picture of me with my three books: Foreign Voices (2018), The Fisherwoman and other stories (2021), and Fifteen Brief Moments in Time (2022).
Next year, I hope to add to the tally. I’m currently preparing a new Novella in Flash for submission. Editing 21 Futures may well keep me busy, but I’m also aiming to finish my novel in 2023.
What are your reading or writing goals for next year? I’d love to know.
Thank you for reading Coming Up Short in 2022.
